Summary:

Supervise welding department to ensure that safety, quality and productivity standards are met.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Promote a culture of safety awareness among team members.
  • Proactively identify and address safety hazards.
  • Follow procedures to ensure the security of the premises and property at all times.
  • Motivate, train, develop, direct and discipline staff.
  • Set goals and priorities for each employee based upon the needs of the next operation or the final customer.
  • Guide staff to monitor inventory levels of both purchased and fabricated components and report shortages in time to avoid any disruption to their operation.
  • Evaluate and monitor equipment and processes and propose and implement improvements.
  • Work with maintenance staff to ensure reliable equipment operation.
  • Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for all processes.
  • Continuously improve processes to minimize variation in quality and productivity rates.
  • Ensure that all reporting requirements are diligently and promptly completed.
  • Cross train with other Supervisors to ensure efficient operation through absences.
  • Help to ensure production targets are achieved, including monitoring staffing, waste and productivity
  • Monitor quality to ensure products meet required specifications.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with employees.

Requirements:

  • Must be an exceptional communicator.
  • Must be able to create structure and stability within a rapidly changing and challenging environment.
  • Must be able to balance conflicting priorities.
  • Must understand and embrace lean manufacturing concepts.
  • Must be proficient with basic computer operation.

 

Work Conditions:

  • As a team, Supervisors must provide leadership to day, night and weekend shifts.  Must be flexible to meet the needs of the job.
